Alexander Heffner to discuss millennial voters in 2016

Alexander Heffner, who has covered the youth vote during the last three presidential elections and has hosted PBS’ public affairs show, “The Open Mind,” since 2014, will give a free lecture at UNT Feb. 11.Alexander Heffner

His lecture, “Millennial Vote 2016,” begins at 7 p.m. in Room 382 of UNT’s University Union, which is located at 1155 Union Circle in Denton. The lecture is a collaboration of UNT's Division of Equity and Diversity, Multicultural Center and the Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism.

“The Open Mind,” which airs Sundays on KERA-TV in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, will celebrate its 60th anniversary in May. The show includes interviews with prominent authors, economists, educators, intellectuals, physicians and politicians, among others.

While hosting “The Open Mind,” Heffner is serving as the Fitzwater Fellow Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire. He was a special correspondent for PBS’ “Need to Know” program during the 2012 election. He has written articles for the Boston Globe, Newsday, Philadelphia Inquirer, RealClearPolitics, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post, among other digital and print publications, and has lectured and moderated panels at many colleges and universities. Heffner is a graduate of Harvard University.
