Four finalists for QEP proposal chosen

May 5, 2014

Dear UNT community,

As UNT readies for its 10-year reaffirmation of accreditation by the Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges, I wanted to update you on where we stand and what’s next.

Staying accredited affirms our high standards and ensures our participation in federal financial aid programs. As part of the reaccreditation process, UNT must develop a Quality Enhancement Plan, which is a five-year plan to improve student learning.

We’ve made tremendous progress on the reaccreditation process. We’ve:

  • Started our comprehensive compliance report
  • Implemented two institutional effectiveness committees composed of faculty and staff
  • Narrowed down ideas for UNT’s choice of a QEP plan

In June, our reaccreditation leadership team will attend a meeting with SACS-COC leadership and staff to prepare for the final stages of the reaccreditation process, which is expected to be completed by 2016.

The QEP is the easiest way for UNT community members to get involved in the reaccreditation process. Many of you have already contributed to the QEP by suggesting topics or giving feedback on those topics, and we appreciate your input.

The QEP leadership team also received dozens of plan proposals in March, and from the original 38, the team chose four larger proposals as finalists for what will become UNT’s QEP.

The finalists include:

  • Engaging the Global Generations: Bridging the Gap Between Preparedness and Global Citizenship
  • Learning for Real: Engaging Students in Communities
  • PATHway for Career Success
  • Undergraduate Scholarship: Establishing a Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities

Neal SmatreskDuring the summer, these will be expanded into more extensive proposals, and the QEP leadership team will seek community-wide input in the fall.

We welcome your continued feedback and urge you to follow the reaccreditation process during the summer via updates on our reaccreditation website and our QEP website.

UNT proud,

Neal Smatresk
