Helping Santa

toy drive boxes

UNT employees can help collect toys for needy children in Denton County as part of the annual WFAA Santa’s Helpers Toy Drive that runs until Dec. 18.

Members of the Staff Senate and other volunteers wrapped the collection boxes in Christmas paper and delivered them to dozens of buildings on campus.

Scott Windham, a network engineer for the UNT System Information Technology Shared Services, Rhonda Acker, an administrative associate in the Division of Enrollment Management, and Jennifer Spillman, an information technology programmer analyst in the Computing and Information Technology Center, organize the drive with the Staff Senate’s support.

All the donated toys stay in Denton County unless the county’s need is met.

Last year’s campaign drew about 1,500 toys, but organizers believe the campus can collect many more.

“We have thousands of students and employees on this campus, and everyone should be able to bring one toy,” Windham said. “I ought to have so many toys that I have to call Peterbilt and ask for an 18-wheeler to deliver all of them.”
